My parents live in the United States, in a small town in the Midwest. They moved here from Mexico decades ago and I was born here, but some of my extended family still lives there. I love going to visit them during the summer, because Mexican culture is so vibrant and full of life and color. We eat delicious traditional foods like mole, tamales, and tacos. We often have fun barbecues with family and friends, and there is always plenty of music and laughter. I always look forward to spending time with my Mexican family because they’re always so warm and welcoming. They always make me feel like I’m part of the family, even though I’m not fully Mexican. My parents support my relationship with my Mexican family by encouraging me to go to Mexico to visit every summer. This helps me remember where my parents came from and it’s a great way to connect with our culture and heritage. My parents also make sure to use Spanish around the house and with my extended family to help me stay fluent in the language. My parents live in the United States, but Mexico will always be home for them and for me. My parents living in the United States allows us to connect with our traditional Mexican roots and build on them, creating a unique, hybrid culture all our own.
